The Meulenberg Transport Company was established more than a century ago and had its origins in sand and gravel. In 1921, in the Dutch town of Urmond, Frits Meulenberg opened a quarry with a maximum surface area of 10 hectares. As a matter of course, his six sons went to work in the company retaining ties to the family business throughout their entire working lives. Representing the company's third generation, Wil Meulenberg has been Managing Director since 1996.

In the early days, transport of sand and gravel took place by horse and cart. Later, the company used small lorries. Acticulated lorries only came on scene after World War II, initially with tipper and tilt carts. During that period, Meulenberg was already carrying coal and fertilizer for the State Mines, now part of DSM. The 1960s saw an expansion of goods transport carrying plastics to Italy. 

With the arrival of sea containers in the early 1970s, Meulenberg branched out in a new direction. Container transport of the region to the port of Rotterdam quickly became the main industrial activity. 

The 1990s saw another shift. Following the opening of a barge terminal in Born, the regional carriers switched container transport  from road to water. For Meulenberg, this represented a major drain on resources, which nevertheless served as a catalyst for the development of a formula geared towards the future: intermodal transport. This choice is fully in line with our objective since 2019 to be as "green forward" as possible. 

Our trucks are now largely equipped with the cleanest Euro 6 diesel engines and thus meet the strictest environmental requirements. 

Since 2020, the company has had an Electro Truck with ZERO EMISSION, through the cross border project EGLM, which takes care of the last mile between customer and terminal. with this innovation, Meulenberg is leading in the segment of 44 ton E-Trucks. 

A vehicle fleet and in-house technical service

For road transport, Meulenberg has a large fleet of vehicles consisting of 30 motor vehicles and 70 trailers, kippers and joloda trailers.

All our trucks have the most modern means of communication and track and trace systems. 

Traditionally, maintenance has been carried out in-house. A well-equipped garage has been set up for this, where work is done 6 days a week.
